Our house was originally built in 1911 and is a beautiful, small mansion that houses up to 25 women.
The House Director serves as the on-site property manager of the house and its employees (a cook and cleaning person) on behalf of the housing corporation that owns the house. The role played by the house director ranges from manager, to hostess, to friend and confidant. She significantly impacts a chapter's living environment and can also contribute to the personal development of our members. For this reason, she must assume her responsibilities with an understanding of the attitudes and trends currently influencing campus life and she must always portray herself as a positive role model. She must be a "team player" in working with our staff and the housing corporation.
Specific Duties include:
-Serves as the chapter hostess and sets an example at all times through professional appearance, unquestionable demeanor, courtesy, and consideration for others.
-Sees that the public areas of the chapter facility are orderly so visitors may be graciously received at any time.
-Recommends areas needing capital improvements, household repairs and replacements.
-Coordinates day-to-day facility management (including staff supervision), small repairs and maintenance with the chapter and Chapter Housing Corporation.
-Serves as on-site contact for contractors and vendors while maintaining a professional working relationship.
-Works within budgeted guidelines for the house.
-Helps to ensure the safety of the house occupants and works with the chapter officers, Advisory Board members, and the housing Corporation Board so that house rules and regulations as mandated by the collegiate chapter, Corporation Board, our national organization and university are followed.
-Lives on site during all academic periods, specifically, but not limited to, sleeping nightly at the house. She may live in the house year-round. During non-academic times, she is not required to sleep nightly in the house.
-Acts as liaison for all campus activities involving house directors.
-The House Director resides in a separate apartment in the house; it's an unfurnished one-bedroom apartment. This is a pet-free and smoke-free property. As a part of the employee's benefits, her room, all utilities, cable and internet will be provided year-round. Meals are provided during the academic year. Compensation and other benefits are negotiable.
Qualifications: Looking for a candidate that enjoys working with college age women, patient, flexible and self-motivated. Desired traits would be a positive approach, focused attitude and the ability to interact professionally and diplomatically with students, parents, alumnae, service providers and community resources. The House Director must also understand the need for discretion and maintaining confidentiality. Excellent organization and communication abilities, basic budget planning, knowledge of email communication, Microsoft Word and Excel. Previous property management experience is a plus.
