2019-2020 House Director Opening, Grand Valley State University

Overview This part-time, live-in position manages the operations and maintenance of the facility and provides facility support to members of Gamma Phi Beta Sorority at Grand Valley State University. Key Responsibilities Manage house operations and partner with undergraduate House Manager in order to foster a safe and enjoyable living and gathering environment for Sorority members and guests.

 

Place maintenance requests through the Grand Villages maintenance request system. Greet and direct any maintenance/repair personnel and communicate any ongoing maintenance issues to AHC board.

 

Collaborate with the House Manager to ensure that residents complete assigned chores, and that special event chairs follow proper procedures to ensure that all facility property is handled appropriately during events, and that the house is tidied after any event.

 

Greet new residents at move-in, distribute keys, and oversee any other move-in related procedures.

 

Oversee move-out process at the end of the year, collecting keys and forwarding addresses, and ensuring that no personal property is left behind.

 

Monitor the performance of weekly cleaning staff and other maintenance providers, to provide a positive housing experience for the chapter.

 

Encourage chapter members to follow proper emergency procedures.

 

Order, pick up, deliver, and store supplies and breakfast snacks from Gordon Food Service, or alternate vendor when GFS does not carry a needed item.

 

Serve as a positive role model for the members and ambassador for the organization.

 

Stay informed of campus trends and issues to effectively communicate with the women and serve the organization.

 

When invited by the Chapter President, be available to attend chapter events.

 

Administer and comply with policies and employee guidelines in accordance with local, state and federal laws, Gamma Phi Beta policies and procedures and University guidelines.

 

Other duties as mutually determined by House Director and AHC board. Reporting Relationships Reports directly to the Affiliated House Corporation (AHC) board of Gamma Phi Beta Sorority. Education/Knowledge/ Experience Knowledge of home maintenance and kitchen/home safety and procedures.

Basic computer and office equipment skills.

Strong communication, organization, and interpersonal skills.

Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation for picking up supply orders.

Ability to lift and carry boxes and supplies weighing up to 15 pounds, and move light furniture and household items.

Able to work effectively with residents, members, university and Grand Villages staff, alumnae, and AHC board volunteers. Skills and Abilities Collaborative Style: builds strong partnerships and alliances with others by identifying mutual goals and fostering open dialogue; approachable.

Gamma Phi Beta Sorority operates under a Title IX federal exemption as an organization for women.

 

August 10, 2019 – May 10, 2020 (dates are slightly flexible, as needed and negotiated)

60 hours per month of dedicated employment service.

If contract is extended for an additional year by mutual agreement with the AHC board, summer housing is provided. Compensation Residence in House Director’s Suite (bedroom with attached private bath). Monthly gross salary of $900 for nine months from August 10, 2019 through May 10, 2020.
