House Director (HD) – Hired by the Alpha Delta Chapter House Corporation of Sigma Kappa Sorority. The HD is being hired to live at the Sigma Kappa House at the University of Tennessee campus, Knoxville.

Located in the new Sorority Village on the University of Tennesseeâ€s expansive Knoxville campus. The HD will live in the just-built Sigma Kappa house and have her own one bedroom/one bath/full kitchen suite, complete with cable, laptop computer, printer, WIFI and parking.

The House Director will be broadly responsible for supervising the day-to-day maintenance, operation and food service of the house, to be accomplished during a 40-hour work week. She will also ensure that the house is orderly, clean and safe at all times, performing her duties diligently and within guidelines and directives established by the CBD. She may consult at any time with members of the Board for guidance and assistance in executing her duties.

The role played by the HD ranges from manager, to hostess, to friend and confidant. She will significantly impact a chapterâ€s living environment and can also contribute to the personal development of the Sigma Kappa members. For this reason, she must assume her responsibilities with an understanding of the attitudes and trends currently influencing campus life, and she must always portray herself as a positive role model.

The House Director will also have responsibility for the meal service; and the meal service chef and team will be accountable to the House Director for the daily workings of the new commercial kitchen, dining room and meals. She will attend weekly meetings with the chef, dining staff, and house manager to address menus. Hired by the CBD, but in strong collaboration with the House Director, the meal staff will answer to the House Director ongoing, once the hiring decision has been contracted.

Similarly, cleaning and maintenance vendors will be determined and contracted with by the CBD, but will thereafter be accountable to the House Director, who will determine whether and when to call upon their services. Up to a budget threshold jointly determined by the CBD and the House Director, the Director will have the freedom and responsibility to ensure the house is maintained in a clean, orderly and safe manner. This includes the daily meal service, including menu, presentation and operational decisions, in consultation with the chef.

Meals and lodging will be furnished at the house for the convenience of the sorority. The HD will be present during meal times and follow and direct the chapter in proper dining etiquette procedures. As a part of providing an important example to young women, the House Director will maintain a pre-dinner ritual of gathering, singing the Sigma Kappa Grace and entering the dining hall in an orderly fashion designed to encourage sisterhood and conversation. It is also expected that the House Director will remain in the house each night that the university is in session to ensure that a responsible and able adult is available to the collegians in case of emergency.

As all Sigma Kappa chapters are now establishing a prescribed 40-hour work week for all House Directors, it is important to establish and post those times when the Director can be expected to be available. The final hours to be posted will be determined, based on the needs of the chapter, after the HD is hired. Addendum Two of this Position Description covers the 40-hour work week requirements, process and expectations in detail and should be reviewed thoroughly.
