Kappa Alpha Theta (UC Davis) seeks a Head Cook/Chef. The successful applicant will have a degree from a culinary program and at least 3 years experience in a residential or restaurant setting cooking for large groups â€“ at least 40 on average and up to 150; solid knowledge of food safety and handling procedures and health department regulations; experience with budgeting, menu planning, and supervision of support staff; ability to accommodate special diets; and creative approach to cooking delicious, healthy, and attractive meals using fresh ingredients. This is not a pre-packaged, heat-and-serve job.
We desire a team player who is receptive and able to deal with changes with grace and a calm, positive attitude. The cook should enjoy working with a variety of people including management, kitchen staff, and collegians. This is an environmentally-minded facility, and we value water conservation, organic ingredients when possible, and generally sustainable and eco-friendly practices.
Full-time position for the academic year (October to June). Hours are 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Monday through Friday to prepare lunch and dinner, plus a willingness to work an occasional weekend for special events. Hourly wage is $17/hour. Paid time off is offered for most school and official holidays. Other benefits, including health insurance, are not provided.
